A thank you note need not be long in order to be meaningful. Here’s a format to follow.
In the first sentence, name what it is you’re thankful for. Get as specific as you can.
Instead of “Thank you for the gift,” you should say, “Thank you for the beautiful flower bouquet.”
“Thank you for your hard work,” is kind but less personal than “Thank you for dedicating hours to this project.”
“Thanks for being there,” is a lovely sentiment but made even more meaningful with details: “Thank you for taking me out to dinner when I needed a night out.”
Then, write a sentence or two sharing what the gesture means to you. Make sure the word “I” or “me” appears in this part. And probably the word “feel,” too.
“You made me feel very appreciated.”
“I am incredibly lucky to have you on my creative team.”
“I feel much better. Sharing a meal with you turned my whole day around!”
Close with a final expression of gratitude before signing your name.
“All my thanks.”
“Thanks again for thinking of me.”
“I’m grateful for your mentorship.”
Put it all together, and voila:
Marcos,
I owe you tremendous thanks for taking over that last-minute assignment last week. Because of you, I was able to truly relax on my trip. I’m grateful to have a generous colleague like you.
Most sincerely,
Keanu
